Roof Recovers: A New Roof at a Fraction of the Cost
The roof recover process involves installing a new top layer to the entire roof, leaving the existing roof in place. There are certain instances where the condition of your roof requires more than simple repairs or coatings, but doesn’t need a full roof replacement. If there is significant damage to the top surface, but the underlying structure is acceptable, a roof recover may be a cost-effective option for you. Let the pro’s at Talbot evaluate your roof and determine if you’re a candidate for this cost saving option.
A roof recover is the process of applying a new roof material over the existing roof, also referred to as a roof overlay. Our roof recovers come with a 25 year, no-dollar-limit manufacturer’s warranty and are suitable options when there is extensive damage to the existing top roof layer, but no structural damage beneath the top layer is present. It is a more cost-effective option for heavily damaged top layers than a roof replacement.

Benefits of Roof Recovers
The main benefit to a roof recover is that it significantly extends the life of your roof before you will need a full tear off and replacement. Talbot is well-versed in analyzing the entire roofing structure. Rather than just a cursory inspection of the top layer, we perform a full analysis to determine if your roof is a candidate for a cost-saving recover. Don’t get your roof replaced until Talbot inspects it fully to assess the viability of a recover.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the differences between the types of roofing services Talbot offers?
We offer 4 main roofing services: replacements, recovers, coatings, and repairs. A replacement is when the existing roof structure is torn off and replaced with a brand new roof. These types of services are reserved for very old roofs or those that have significant damage to the underlying roof structure.
A recover is the process of adding a new top layer to the existing roof and is performed when there is significant damage to the existing top layer, but the underlying structure is not damaged.
Roof coatings are sprayable or brushable coatings that we apply to the existing roof to extend its lifespan by covering cracks and holes. Coatings are perfect for moderately damaged roofs, but also for middle-aged roofs with minor wear and tear because they significantly extend a roof’s lifespan.
Roof repairs are reserved for minor cracks and the process involves applying a sealing agent to the damaged area. Repairs are best utilized as part of an annual preventive maintenance program to ensure small cracks don’t turn into larger problems.
Does Talbot offer warranties for roofing services?
We do! Because Talbot is an approved applicator of several of the most well-respected roofing material brands in the world, we are able to offer no-dollar-limit manufacturer’s warranties on our roofing applications.
For commercial roof replacements and recovers we offer a 25 year warranty, for commercial roof coatings we offer a 20 year warranty, and for commercial roof repairs we offer multi-year repair-area warranties.
On the residential side, our roof replacements come with 10 year warranties and our repairs offer the same multi-year repair-area warranty as our commercial repairs. Roof recovers and coatings are typically not performed on residential homeowner properties.
How do I know if I need to get my roof serviced?
Aside from the obvious problems that lead to roofing service calls such as leaks or visible tear-offs, it can be difficult to know if it’s time for a roofing service without a professional inspection. Talbot offers free inspections to analyze the health of your roof.
We know that often times, customers are hesitant to ask for free inspections because they feel that is just a roofing company’s way of getting in the door to tell them they need a costly replacement. That’s where Talbot has set itself apart from much of our competition. Unlike some contractors who only recommend replacements, even when they aren’t necessary, Talbot would prefer to do a roof coating or recover when applicable.
Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. We’ve made a name for ourselves by being South Florida’s most honest roofing company and we don’t intend to stop now. When you work with us, we promise not to oversell you, and we promise to always do what is right for you.

Truly a great experience with Matt G. and Talbot Roofing. From the initial contact and follow up through the quality work and personal care in the work by Miguel and his team. They stuck to their quote despite clear challenges in the work required and stayed late to make sure things were buttoned up before the rain. Cannot say enough about Talbot--beyond just professional to personal care and attention to detail.
